Crushing Plants
After ore is removed from the ground, it must be reduced in size to a flour-like consistency before the mineral content can be removed. Historically, stamp mills were used, essentially large hammers with a mechanical advantage for the operator. No matter how it is accomplished, breaking rocks is hard work. It is little wonder that the mining industry has devoted so much effort to do it more efficiently. Today, mineral beneficiation relies on sophisticated crushing circuits and crushing plants, often employing a jaw crusher followed by a cone crusher. Screens and conveyors sort and recycle material until specifications are met. Nordberg and Symons were among may popular manufacturers of rock crushing machinery now controlled by Metso Minerals.
